Senior Engineer - Mine Planning

An opportunity for a Senior Mine Planning Engineer has come up reporting directly into the Mine Manager. The position of Technical Services Superintendent has been removed from the organisation which means that this role will give you the autonomy to manage your own planning team as you see fit. There will also be the opportunity to be the relief/alternate Mine Manager.

This means that the role will require a high achieving Mine Planning Engineer with extensive underground experience and the ability to work with different commodities.   

This underground mine has a total of 4 ore bodies each using different mining methods and in different environments so your role will be very diversified.   

The company itself is the owner operator of the site which eliminates the frustrations that come with dealing with contracting companies. Mining Engineers required for an UG redevelopment in Central QLD. Mine redevelopment is a very unique skill and in terms of developing your career this will be invaluable experience. The management and support structures are already in place so you won’t be thrown in the deep end.

Key accountabilities include:

The Company is a rapidly expanding mid tier Mining House with another precious metals mine currently under construction in North QLD. Both operations will be run close together so there will be an opportunity to cross over in the future.

These roles are purely FIFO, however there is a lot of flexibility around the rosters. The standard is 8:6 but you have the option of doing extended rosters if that suits your lifestyle better. FIFO is available from all capital cities in Australia. The camp has excellent facilities with a swimming pool, gym and tennis courts.

What’s interesting about this role is the Open Cut Mine surrounds an old underground mine. Working with this constraint will be your biggest challenge but this is the reason the engineers on site love their job and why most of them have stayed for such a long time.

The role will essentially be Short – Mid Term Planning reporting into a Planning Superintendent. The Tech Services team is relatively small so your role will be very diverse, you will be working with another planning engineer and a few production Engineers too. The Manager and Superintendent have both been on site for over 6 years so there is plenty of experience there to help you get on your feet.

 Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Producing the Weekly to 13 week plans to reflect the priorities, production targets, and equipment and manning resources.
• Communicating the plan with the Production, Geology and Survey Departments to discuss priorities, responsibilities and requirements
• Project based work with the objective of prolonging the LOM… The LOM is currently set at 2016 and plans are in place to take it past 2020.

The organization is a tier 1 Mining company with operations worldwide. Management do not recruit Senior Engineers as they prefer to recruit Mining Engineers and internally promote their Seniors so your career path is clearly mapped out for you.

• Recruitment of the Technical Services team including Mining Engineers, Geologists & Geotechnical Engineers

• Relief Mine Manager duties (preferred)

Aside from this UG redevelopment project they are also in the construction phase of another precious metals mine half an hour away. Opportunity to move to that site as Mine Manager when production commences in 2013.
